Becta Filtering
Becta (British Educational Communications and Technology Agency) is a UK group which
sets performance standards and supports UK education departments with their deployment
Internet resources in schools. Their goal is to provide leadership in the innovative
and effective use of technology to transform teaching and learning.
For schools and Internet service providers in the UK, Becta csets standards for
Internet filtering, among other things:
The filtered service must be capable of blocking 90% of inappropriate content in
each of the following categories:
- Adult (sexually explicit) material
- Violence and bomb making
- Racist and anti-religious
- Illegal drug taking/promotion
- Software piracy
IM2Filter has a number of customers who supply Internet service and management
to UK schools. IM2Filter has been accredited by Becta.
With the IM2Filter system, these customers and schools get on-demand categorization,
an important feature in a school environment.
